VENOM, will Sony's Anti-Hero cash-in at the box office?

Let’s talk about the character Venom.

"The Origin History of Venom begins with the creature that would become Venom being born to a race of extra-terrestrial symbiotes which lived by possessing the bodies of other life-forms. These parasites would empower their victims with superior physical abilities at the cost of fatally draining them of adrenaline." (Marvel, Trading Cards)

In 1994 I discovered Venom in the Maximum Carnage Series comic line. Today, from the Sony's SDCC 2018 trailer , Venom is a "anti-hero." OooOOoohhhhH SHIT!?!?!? Perhaps Sony is attempting to cash-in on the Deadpool anti-hero character?

Venom is not an antihero.

Eddie Brock, the first carrier of the symbiotes, has a bitter hatred for Spider-Man.  Peter Parker however, in this movie universe by Sony, is a teenager and Sony may hide Venom's insatiable hatred for Spider-man. Tom Hardy, looks badass and if given the correct direction in the movie depicting an antihero this may not be a bad idea for the marketing value of this particular character. However, given the history of the two arch-rivals, there needs to be a face-off in the Marvel universe between Spider-Man and Venom. Perhaps Sony is marketing with the approach of the Deadpool antihero character but you will not find any comedy in Venom. If Sony is pushing that whitty on-screen puns from previous Marvel movies, I doubt movie goers will be convinced. This is my subjective opinion but from the looks of the trailers, no comedy here. I would like this movie to stay this way.

Venom is not the happy-go antihero as Deadpool.

There is a sense of uncertainty with this movie. The main concern is no Spider-Man. Venom is a standalone movie that may, in the future, have a crossover. Sony has to tread lightly with the crossover, as Peter in the Marvel movie universe is still a teenager. Society may not receive a grown man having a hatred for a teenager Spider-Man. Regardless, the reviews and reactions are mixed and nothing really is totally negative, or positive. As stated, there is a level of uncertainty of how Sony's Venom will fair with audiences and most importantly, the box office.
